II Peter Introduction

PREFACE

I have just finished my exposition on Peter's first epistle, and now I am starting my exposition on his second epistle. I just turned seventy-five November ninth, so it looks very likely that I will be able to finish my expositions on the entire New Testament, for I have only this epistle and the book of Jude left. I will use the same format I have used on the other books of writing each verse out from the Authorized Version, and then my Literal Greek Translation (LGT) below it, and then my exposition of each verse phrase by phrase, or line upon line. I hope you will study along with me and get as much enjoyment as I have in my research. God bless us in our study.

INTRODUCTION

This epistle was written c.67 A.D. There is a lot of confusion among theologians as to whether or not this epistle is authentic; however all the conservative writers I have consulted believe in its authenticity. I lump all this skepticism along with the crowd that claim God is dead. I never have been interested in Bible criticism, but if it tickles your fancy there are plenty of Books out in the marketplace that not only claim this epistle is not genuine, but that the entire Word of God is false.

This epistle reads like the first epistle of Peter in that he warns them about the many false teachers in the world, and that God's grace is sufficient for them. This epistle is written from Babylon, as was his first epistle. Silvanus was Peters' amanuensis in the first epistle, but he wrote this epistle with his own hand. Peter writes to the five churches scattered out in Asia Minor. Peter will stress the importance of knowing Bible doctrine as their only defense against the wickedness in the world.
